Årbakka Handelsstad is situated on the eastern side of Tysnesøy, south of Lukksund and is a typical western trading station built at the end of the 1800's. Consists of general store with post office, forge & warehouse. The general store and post office comprise a museum, and here time has stood still for 50 years. The forge is a home for Tysnes Kystlag and houses local clubs and the coastal culture/motor museum. The warehouse is furnished as a gallery.Innermost in Årbakkavika 8 m long stone pier with depths from 1,4 to 2,2 m.
Ca 200 m from the marina there are burial mounds with monuments from the Iron Age.

2011 season - Arts sale/exhibition in the warehouse, open kiosk and museum/exhibition.
3rd weekend in July (15 and 17) - "Tysnes Rundt" starts and finishes at Årbakka. Traditional wooden boats will be rowed around Tysnesøy, starting Friday afternoon and finishing Sunday afternoon. Info: tysnes-kystlag.no |
